Kelvin heads up SONY BMG Music Entertainment’s Asia, the number one record company in the region. Encompassing 10 offices and 680 staff at Sony BMG Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and BMG Japan. The regional office is also based in Hong Kong.
Kelvin was born in New Zealand and has spent his entire career working for Sony BMG and its previous incarnations. Whilst on vacation in Europe in 1979 he joined CBS Records UK. In 1981 Kelvin transfered to CBS Records Australia where he worked in various roles including Finance Director. In 1991, after the acquisition of CBS Records by Sony Corporation, he relocated back to the UK to be part of Sony Music’s European office with oversight of the continued development of an Asian business. In 1993 Kelvin moved to Singapore as Finance Director to set up Sony Music’s Regional Headquarters in the island state. 1995 saw the regional office move to Hong Kong where Kelvin assumed the post of VP Finance. Promotions soon followed including SVP Finance and SVP & CFO. Post the successful integration of Sony Music and BMG in Asia, Kelvin was appointed to run the region as EVP and COO in July 2005 and as President in May 2007.
SONY BMG Music Entertainment is a 50-50 joint venture between Sony Corporation of America and Bertelsmann AG. SONY BMG is the second largest record company worldwide (excluding Sony Music Japan) and the number 1 record company in Asia.
